我们都知道英语与各国语言都是近亲，像什么拉丁语，德语，法语，西班牙语的，你可知道英语和我们中国千年的古汉语文化也着一脉相承的渊源，就连它对爱情的感悟都如出一章。汉语中我们把短语平行叫做重叠结构，英语中它会变化为词词搭配，词组相配，正因为它们有着严格的对称，整齐的排列，与我国的汉语相互辉映，也造就了这段妙不可言的爱情。
（1） 以名词为主的重复，表示时间、次数、数量等。
arm in arm 臂挽臂
例：Arm in arm the student went to school. 学生们挽着胳膊去上学。
back to back 背靠背
例：The two fighters stood back to back. 两位斗士背靠背地站着。
day after day 一天又一天
例：Day after day he looked forward to the coming of the PLA. 他天天盼望着解放军的到来。
from cover to cover 从头至尾
例：He read the book from cover to cover. 他从头至尾看完了那本书。
face to face 面对面
例：I hadn’t seen him for years when suddenly we stood face to face.
我多年没见到他了，突然我们面对面地站在了一起。
hand in hand 手拉手
例：The couple were walking hand in hand. 这对夫妇手拉手地走着。
lots and lots of 大量地
例：Lots and lots of light industrial products are sent to the countryside.
大量轻工产品运往农村。
one by one 一个又一个
例：The doctors examined the students one by one . 医生们一个个检查了学生们的身体。
word for word 琢字琢句
例：He repeated the story word for word..他琢字琢句复述了那个故事。
year by year 一年一年地
例：This little boy grows tall year by year. 这个小男孩儿长得一年比一年高。
shoulder to shoulder 肩并肩
例：Let’s stand shoulder to shouler. 让我们共同努力。
side by side 并肩地，并存
例：It is curious to see Buddhism existing side by side with Christianity.
佛教和基督教并存，看起来很奇妙。
see eye to eye 与…看法一致
例：Unfortunately he didn’t see eye to eye with his parents and there were always arguments at home.
不幸的是，他和他的父母意见不一致，家里总是吵吵嚷嚷。
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth以眼还眼，以牙还牙（有点像慕容复的以彼之道还之彼身）
例：What he wants is an eye for an eye .他所需要的是以眼还眼。
from ear to ear 满面笑容
例：“Good morning,”said Hans, smiling from ear to ear!” 您早!”汉斯满面笑容地说。
from mouth to mouth 流传
例：The news of the victory spread rapidly from mouth to mouth. 胜利的消息很快就传开了。
eyeball to eyeball直接冲突（怒目相向）
例：There were two adversaries standing eyeball to eyeball. 那两个对手在那站着，怒目而视。
time after time 再三，三番五次
例：The doctor told him time after time to give up smoking 医生再三让他戒烟。
from time to time 有时，不时
例：I received her letters from time to time when I studied in the USA.
我在美国学习时时不时会收到她的信。
step by step 一步一步地
例：Step by step, I came near the first building.我一步一步地走近第一座楼房。
bit by bit 一点一点
例：Bit by bit ,she closed the gap.她一点一点地缩短了差距。
（2） 以副词为主的重复，构成一个新的意思的短语或固定搭配。
again and again 反复地
例：Good books should be read again and again. 好书要一遍一遍地读。
by and by 不久
例：He will come back by and by .他不久就会回来。
out and out 彻头彻尾，十足，完全
例：This is out and out big-power chauvinism. 这是彻头彻尾的大国沙文主义。
through and through 彻底
例：The man is roguish through and through. 这人是个彻底的无赖。
on the up and up 越来越大，越来越高
例：Business was on the up and up .生意越做越大。
over and over 反复
例：He read that poem over and over.他反复读那首诗。
all and all 总之
例：All in all ,there are twenty of them. 他们总共有二十人。
（3） 出现在某些动词加上其同源宾语的结构中
例：She lived a happy life.她过着幸福生活。
例：He breathed his last breath. 他咽下了最后一口气。
例：As he slept, he dreamed a dream. 睡觉时，他做了一个梦。
例：They had to fight a hard fight.他们只能进行一场苦战。
